Chinese New Year Celebration Concert

Welcome to the Year of the Ox with a dazzling celebration of culture on stage at The Concourse Theatre. This extravaganza features an exhilarating feast of Chinese music, martial arts and dance by a wide selection of prestigious artists.

Experience traditional Chinese folk and classical music and discover some of Sydney’s youngest virtuosos from the Rising Stars program at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Watch a thrilling martial arts demonstration by Nathan Tsen from Jin Wu Koon and the electrifying sword form of Australian champion Andy Trieu with Dr Lulu Liu and the Australian Pipa Association.

Iconic soprano Shu Cheen Yu shares much-loved vocal classics from Australia and China, while Cross Over Dance Studios presents the latest developments in Chinese contemporary dance.

With a focus on healing and hope for the future, the program features the tranquil and vibrant chanting of Venerable Ru Yi and her disciples from Nan Tien Temple Chatswood.

Rounding off this unique show is a rousing all-company performance of Prelude on a Chinese Theme composed by artistic director Dr Nicholas Ng followed by his arrangement of the popular Chinese song Long de chuanren (Descendants of the Dragon).

Produced by the Australia-China Institute for Arts and Culture at Western Sydney University, this Chinese New Year celebration is set to delight and inspire.
